Iberico ham, at its best moment

A recent study by the Interprofessional Association of Iberian Pork shows the enormous potential of Iberian ham in international markets. The export data of cured hams and shoulders cannot be more positive for the sector, since they show a growth above 140%, compared to the last ten years.

In addition to having increased its consumption in the European market in countries such as France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, as well as the increase in the USA, Mexico, China and Japan also stands out.

Although in Spain, more than half of the Iberian hams that are consumed in domestic environments are whole pieces, producers and marketers of the Iberian products wanted to give importance to the versatility of their products, adapting them to the new times with formats and presentations adapted to consumers, which is why toda sliced, ham in cubes and boneless ham centers are more popular among clients.

Currently, the “Ham Pasion Tour” campaign has been promoted by the EU and the Iberian Pork Interprofessional Association is being carried out in Europe, where the Iberian products will be closer known. The success is unstoppable, two out of three participants claim to know the differences between Spanish iberico hams and the rest of cured hams. The majority of the sector believe that their consumption will be maintained in the future.

The quality, traceability (to know the trajectory of the products) and transparency, makes the Iberian sector go through one of its best moments and consolidate its future in the world. A recognition for the work well done.
