Cortijo de Suerte Alta, an Organic and Exclusive Olive Oil

Today we are talking about Cortijo de Suerte Alta, an organic Extra Virgin olive oil with Designation of Origin Baena.

A Marquis' delicacy

The fact is that these Olive Oils are extracted exclusively from a family property located next to the village of Albendín, owned by the Marquises of Bedmar. They would transform what was previously a farm dedicated to pasture and cereal into olive cultivation.

According to the practice of the time, they planted Picuda, Hojiblanca and Picual varieties intermixed in order to favor pollination. It was not until 1996 that new olive trees were introduced to the property and the transformation to organic cultivation began, resulting in an annual production of 250,000 kg of olive oil, which is harvested, produced and processed on the same premises.

An olive oil produced with great dedication

The Cortijo de Suerte Alta is located in the heart of Andalusia, in the province of Cordoba, in limestone terrain, at low altitude and with little rainfall. It is in this environment, where organic farming has allowed the formation of a native vegetation cover that protects the land during the winter, and also gives rise to an olive oil with very specific distinctive notes.

The way the olives are harvested is also characteristic. Beginning in mid-October, and choosing the olives by hand, avoiding any kind of damage during collection. And leaving, in addition, for the month of January the collection of the fallen olives, whose production and storage will be carried out separately.

This exhaustive system of harvesting and control will allow the consumer to find the Designation of Origin Baena on the back label, but also the traceability to the exact lot or plot from which the olive oil comes.

A real challenge, where meticulous attention to detail is shown, and the right time is chosen for each task.

Existing varieties

In Jamonarium, you can find their Picual in Envero varieties. Produced with the youngest olive grove of the property, between 10 and 40 years old, and with aromas of almonds, figs and citrus, and notes of chlorophyll.

And Marqués de Prado, made with two varieties: Picual and Arbequina. The Picual variety is between 10 and 40 years old, and the Arbequina variety comes from a five year old olive tree. The Picual will give it its characteristic bitterness, with aromas of green leaf and tomato, while the Arbequina will remind us of the aromas of apples and green bananas.
